Has anyone else had problems connecting an 2020 iPad Pro to a MBA M1 via Wifi? I've followed Apples instructions exactly, and both devices connect fine with a USB C cable. I've enabled "Connect via Wifi." I've checked Finder's preferences. Both devices have the latest software, and both are connected to the same WiFi network.

But the iPad Pro does not show up in the Finder sidebar under locations when the cable is disconnected like Apple says it should. I even checked sidecar, and it works fine. Is there some privacy setting I'm missing? All the help I found searching the net was before Big Sur and the M1. Did they change something fundamental?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Reboot everything and try again. I’ve had this problem solved by rebooting either the Mac or the iPad or both.

Yeah rebooted several times. Even loaded some content on the iPad to give it some to sync. Nothing, so I call Apple Support. Nice lady, but takes me through the same document I had already found online, gave up and got a "tech 2" on the line. While he's explaining that sometimes it can take hours for the device to find a reason to sync, BOOM! There it is! I guess he was right. After turning on wifi syncing the iPad will disappear until it feels it has a reason to connect. No problems since. A line or two explaining the delay in the on-line docs would have helped. But I'm pleased it's not working!
