Connecting iPhone to TV with USB cord

Hey, how do I listen to music or play video on my TV with my iPhone? I can get it to work with my regular iPod, but it doesn't work with my iPhone. Although I can view pictures from my iPhone, I can't listen to any of my music. It says I don't have any. I'm connecting the iPhone with just a simple USB cord, which worked for my regular iPod. Thanks!
