Will this work?

I have a 2012 mac mini i am running with an apple thunderbolt display. I was thinking of connecting the mac mini to the thunderbolt display via the extra thunderbolt port on the thunderbolt display and leave the thunderbolt cable coming out of the thunderbolt display for my mac book. I'd also plug lan cables into the mac mini and the thunderbolt monitor.

Then with the mac mini running if I wanted to connect my MacBook all I would have to do is connect the magsafe adapter and the thunderbolt cable. i understand I won't be able to use the screen for two devices, but will this this setup let the MacBook connect to the mac mini and connect to the LAN network?

Seems like I could down on wires, and if I shut the mac mini off, my mac book now has a large dock by connecting only two wires.

I'm sure I am missing something?
