Connecting Macbook to HDTV

i bought what i believe is is a mini display port to DVI adapter,

as well as a HDMI - DVI Cable,

but when i try and make the connection, nothing really happens. Any ideas?

What MB model (month/year of purchase) and TV model do you have and have you consulted the manual of the TV on how to properly switch to the correct channel?

I am trying to do the same thing with the HDMI cable and DVI adapter on Video Channel 3 of my Sony Bravia. My screen saver comes up on the TV but nothing else. Did you have any luck?

by screen saver do you mean desktop background?
then it's working, the tv is now "beside" your monitor, if you drag a window off the left or right of you laptop screen, then it will appear on the TV.

you need to go into system preferences, displays to get it all sorted out.
