connecting MacBook to Sony 40" LCD - HDMI or VGA?

Hi,

My husband and I are trying to connect his MacBook to a Sony KDL 40S3000 LCD. I have read conflicting information on what would be the best way to connect a MacBook to the Sony 40" LCD. It seems that these are the 3 best options:
1. DVI - HDMI cord.
2. DVI - HDMI adapter, then HDMI cord.
3. VGA

The first 2 would involve purchasing a mini-DVI -> DVI adapter from Apple. I think we will have a hard time moving our Sony LCD once it is mounted, so I am thinking that it may be better to just connect 2 HDMI cords to it and connect it to other [yet-to-be purchased] components as necessary. So, option 2 seems more desirable to me, but I don't know if that degrades the video quality.

I have read that the mini-DVI -> VGA adapter + VGA cord can provide better image quality than using HDMI, so I'm not sure which to choose.

Also, is the quality of the cables and adapters at monoprice.com the same as those found at places like Circuit City and Radio Shack?

I actually have an iBook G4 that I tried connecting with an Apple video adapter and a composite video cord that I had lying around. The image quality was terrible. Would using an S-video cable be any better? Do I have any reasonable options for connecting my iBook G4 to my Sony 40" LCD?

If The Sony Has A VGA Input Why Waste It?

I like VGA but others don't. If the TV has a VGA input why waste it?

MacBook mini to VGA will also come in handy should you ever want to hook up your MB to a projector for a presentation somewhere sometime.

I think HomeAvcables.com is cheapest. And I know their quality is top notch.

Go HDMI, it's all digital. Especially if you have a 1080p tv, since I believe a lot of TVs are limited to 1024x768 over VGA, but can do the full resolution over DVI/HDMI. Both will be far better than S-Video/Composite.

If you use a HDMI/DVI adapter you're not losing any quality compared to a single cable. its still a digital connection.

I plugged a mac mini into my 30" CRT HDTV with a DVI-HDMI cable from monoprice. It immediately detected the TV and let me choose a HD resolution. picture was fantastic, as expected.

HDMI. Keeping signal digital to the TV is best. Adapters should be fine.

Do not buy the cheapest cables you can find. There IS difference (although you can go crazy and spend mega-bucks). Mid-Range Monster cables or equivelant would be a safe bet....

I used HDMI and it looks perfect in 1080p. Now if I could just find a way for it to fill the whole screen without overscan....
