Connecting Macbook to TV

Hi, I have a CD Macbook, that I want to hook up to my 15" LCD TV, with a resolution of 1024x768 resolution. I plan on using it to watch TV shows recorded with EyeTV. I may also use it as a monitor occasionally. What kind of cables will I need, and how much would they cost?

My TV has component, composite, and a Dsub cable inputs. (Is DSub the same as VGA?)

You will get the best video quality using the D-sub connection. Yes, D-sub is the same as VGA. All you should need for the setup is a mini-DVI to VGA adapter (from Apple), and a regular VGA cable.

But how would I get sound?

There should be a 1/8" mini jack (like a headphone jack) next to the VGA input on the TV. Occasionally, instead of this, there is only a pair of RCA ports, but typically, it is 1/8".

So you just need a long cable with headphone / 1/8" jacks on both sides. You can also sometimes find VGA cables that have a bundled 1/8" line that runs alongside the VGA.

It connects from the headphone output port on the MB to the port on the TV.

So How Well Does the MacBook Handle eyeTV?

Is anyone a heavy eyeTV user that records to a MacBook? How well does that work. It works great on my loaded iMac but I need a portable setup. Thanks

Now that I have had my setup for a while, I have used EyeTV alot, and it has worked perfectly. The only thing is you have to remember is when you put it to sleep, you need to keep the lid open, or it won't wake up. You also need to remember to plug the Usb dongle in when its time to record. I've missed quite a few shows because of that....

Anyways, works great and I would highly recommend it.
