losing my mind. Can’t seem to pair a mouse or keyboard to the MAC studio or start up.

I tried a few usb c cables. Turning on/ off with them in pairing mode.

MX master 3 and keychron K2

was this a major oversight? Thought I had read about this earlier today ?

I was unable to initially pair with mx keys/mouse. Took me about an hour to pair a keyboard and mouse. What eventually worked was an old AA powered magic mouse and a Satechi compact backlit bluetooth keyboard hard wired via usb-c.

Once I finally got them paired and through initial setup, connecting my Logi stuff via bluetooth preferences was easy. My sense is that if you aren't pairing a new apple mouse/keyboard, going with something primitive and wired is probably the best bet.

I called support and they didn't seem to have it mapped out. If you can't borrow a cheap mouse and keyboard from a neighbor you might have to go to an Apple Store just to run through setup. Might try calling support first. Definitely sucks that Apple doesn't have clear guidance on this.

Can't you just wire the MX Master 3 with an USB C Cable? I did that with a Mac mini M1 a few weeks ago while setting it up and it did work. I also have a wired cheap Lenovo keyboard and mouse just in case are needed.

that was a miss by apple setup on assuming users had wireless apple ready devices to connect. Luckily I had the wired keyboard n mouse so was able to by pass that screen. Was annoying

That was my plan going in. For whatever reason, it didn't work for me.

Are you saying even with the Logitech USB-A dongle you couldn’t get the Studio to use see the mouse upon setup assistant? The Studio even has USB-A ports.

I noticed when I purchased 2018 Mac Mini, unless you have apple's own magic keyboard and magic mouse, you pretty much need a wired keyboard and mouse for set up.

I presume Mac Studio is the same since it also has no built in keyboard and trackpad.

Any USB cable keyboard and mouse should work.

I am positive that the MX series still connects via bluetooth when you use USB cables connecting them to the Mac, this simply charges it.

However if you use the Unifying Receiver dongle it is a RF transceiver that the Mac should see as generic USB device. The only exception is if all your 2/3 device presets have been occupied by bluetooth computers.

@ct2k7 and @Chancha I think that must be true: MX won't connect during setup unless you have Unifying Receiver set up, and it still communicates wirelessly when connected via USB, so that doesn't fix anything. Having been through that, my MX gear is working fine now but if I'd known better, I would have just scavenged some old wired peripherals at the office and used those for setup. Hopefully this will help some other people avoid the same inconvenience.

:( I'm sad....

Were you using it before / need to reset it?

Yes, I've had these for over a year and was using them with my iMac. Didn't need to reset it, was easy as ever to connect once basic setup was done.

Yup this doesn't work. I tried the cable with an MX Anywhere 3. Tried the unifying receiver with the MX keyboard as well and it was a no go.
Ended up having to use a wired mouse with USB C adapter and then bring up the on screen keyboard via accessibility options.
Huge pain in the a$$!
