I just purchased a Playstation 3 and i was wondering if its possible to connect it to an imac and whether i would get a decent HD signal to play games on the imac by using it as an external monitor....

if its possible to connect it to an imac

Possible.. yes by purchasing some sort of USB video input device. The iMac does not have a video in.

and whether i would get a decent HD signal to play games on the imac by using it as an external monitor....

Considering you'll need a video input device I would guess the quality would be based on the translation hardware/software of whatever device you get.

I've been on a 2 month search trying to find the HD input solution for FW800/400 or USB 2.0, it doesn't exist.... To a point, the solution for full HD component input via Firewire 800 exists, but it's a professional video broadcasting device which cost $2999.

I'm hoping EyeTV comes out with a HDMI or Component HD device soon.

Thanks for the info.. For the time being i take this as a NO :)

My feeling is that any solution to your problem is going to involve an undesirable amount of latency, unless you're playing games that don't require precision timing.

30" Mac Cinema Display - Playstation 3

Is there anyway I can hook my PS3 to my Mac Display?

I have played PS2 on my old 24" Alum iMac.

I ordered the Pinnacle HDTV Tuner for Mac, and it came with a USB adapter that had 3 adapters attached to it, one of which was a yellow video input.

I just plugged in the yellow AV cable, and turned on the option in the software, and I was playing PS2 easily.

Wasn't the greatest quality though. But hey, hope I helped!
[It was about $149.99 at Best Buy I think]
