Connecting Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 to Mac

Ok so I'm using Mountain Lion 10.8.1 and I would like to connect my Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 to my macbook via USB to send movies, music, eBooks etc to it.

According to the Samsung website their is an application called Kies that installs the software necessary to do this. But it will not run on Mountain Lion as the application does not work for any Max OS more recent than Max OS 10.7


Any ideas?

No I most certainly will not get an iPad, they look ridiculous. They are over sized and don't even offer the customer the option of a smaller model. I don't appreciate apple's policy of not allowing non-apple apps such as Kindle, Kobo, Audible etc of not having in app store buttons.

I'm expected to access their stores through safari? Or a desktop? No I shouldn't have to do that. I don't have to deal with any of that on my Android Tab. I expect to be able to access the stores of these third party services all within the one app.

I hate iPads and will never purchase one as long as Apple implements these unreasonable policies for third party eBook applications. So I will stick with my Android thank you very much

I have a Galaxy Tab 10.1. I have not attempted to connect to my new Mac, but I do recall others having difficulties with Kies and Mac.

You might try and hop over the XDA forums and poke around or ask the question. LOTS of helpful folks and developers over there.

I use Airdroid. I find it the most easiest way to transfer media from the Mac to the device and vice versa. Hope this helps!

I was having this problem. I tried kies even followed the steps listed in the above posts. I have a Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 with JB 4.1.1 loaded. I also downloaded android file transfer on my macbook with 10.7.5 how I finally figured out how to transfer files to the tablet was going into settings>developer options then selecting USB debugging. After I had that selected I was then able to transfer files to my Tab on both the internal memory and my 32GB SD. Hope this helps out as I was furious for the past 2 days of not being able to transfer files over via Mac

iPads look ridiculous? Doesn't that mean that your Galaxy Tab looks ridiculous too? Also, you realize there is an iPad Mini now, right?

Don't be such a die hard fan boy. At the time of this post the iPad mini was not available in Ireland. I'll be honest here the iPad mini's look ok. But they are not small enough though and their specs are lower than the new iPad (which makes zero sense). No seri either if I'm not mistaken?

The 7 inch Galaxy Tab 2 is a lot smaller than the iPad mini and is still without the restriction of using in app stores for Kindle, Audible etc. Apple have stopped allowing app developers from having store access via their apps. Which is an outrageous policy in my opinion and doesn't exactly create a very good user experience. I shouldn't have to jump over the Safari to buy a book in the Amazon Kindle store, I should be able to buy it directly from the app itself. I'm not going to purchase a product "just because" its apple. Apple is great and all, but its far from perfect and some of their products are not worth bothering with. I buy technology devices because the device itself does what I want it to do and fits my needs. The iPad just doesn't do that for me.

I'm just after trying it now. I let the application update and connected it by USB and it seems to work for me. It won't work by connecting it via wi-fi for some reason. The only thing is, you really need to have the tab charged before connecting it. Will not charge while its connected to the Mac. Good enough I suppose

I too went into the Galaxy Tab 2 and went to settings>developer options then clicked on the USB debugging box. When I clicked on "Kies" and accidentally
dragged a movie file into "Kies", it's under the device name under Videos, the only problem is I don't know where to find it on my Galaxy Tab 2 tablet? I wanted to drag a movie file from my desktop on my iMac intel to the tablet.
I am using OS X 10.6.8
Any help would be appreciated.

Kies had an update for Windows a few days ago and now the wireless sync works like a charm.

With Mac, no updates and doesnt work yet.

I have a number of files I turn into PDFs on the Mac that get updated frequently - audio / video lists and info on the videos in folders. I wanted a way to get the updates to the Galaxy Tab. I have Desktop shortcuts on the Tab for the files and didn't want to have to make new shortcuts when the files were updated.

Just an idea - GoogleDrive and ES File Explorer File Manager to transfer from the Mac to the Galaxy Tab. Free, works well without having to mess with some of the things mentioned in this thread. I assume it would work Tab to Mac but don't know.

On the Mac, put the files in the GoogleDrive folder. On the Tab; open ES File Explorer > Network > Cloud > GoogleDrive folder. ES3 allows you to select multiple files for an action. Select the files by holding down on one until you get the little check box. Select others as desired. Go to the More option at the bottom right of the Tab. Select Move to.

I put the files in the Download folder on the tab. My Desktop shortcuts (ES File Explorer makes shortcuts) relate to the files in the download folder so when they are overwritten, the shortcut still works.

After the move; GoogleDrive syncs, removes the files from GoogleDrive and on the Mac they go into the Trash. I turn off GoogleDrive because I don't like my Mac chatting up the cloud unless needed but leave it active on the Tab.
