hey, i've recently got the Ethernet adapter for MBA and I am still
unable to connect to my home internet connection... It continues
to give me a "self-assigned IP"... If anyone can help with this issue
it would be greatly appreciated...

We're going to need more info than that.

What kind of router are you using?
Have you tried different ethernet cables?
What version of the OS?

router/gateway is an RCA DHG535 (not wireless)
I have attempted to using different Ethernet cables to make connection..
my MBA runs OS X 10.5.1

when I attempt to use the dhcp it I get a self assigned IP address...
when I manually put in the IP, subnet, router etc it still does not connect?..

First of all, you should update to 10.5.4.

Secondly, try resetting all the settings on your router (by holding down the reset button on the back for 10 seconds or so).
