Hi folks, new user here :)

I recently upgraded from an iPhone 4 to an iPhone 6, and that renders my Monster Connect2 micro usb cable useless. I don't really like Apple's standard white cable either (too short), so I'm thinking either:

- to get Apple's Lightning to 30-pin adapter and use it with the Monster cable,

- or to buy a longer non-Apple 30-pin cable and set the Monster aside.

I keep hearing that non-Apple cables can be detrimental to the battery life but I can't be sure as this might be Apple's way of getting you to buy their overpriced accessories. What should I do?

Also Apple does make a 2 meter cable just a thought if you were afraid about using a third party cable

The problem with Apple cables is that they are overpriced and from my own experience, not very sturdy.

Do third party connectors really hurt the battery though?

I use Griffen cables in both short and long sizes. The connector is a great tapered design, thin on the connector end and thick on the cord end, so it's easy to grasp, sturdy, and still fits most cases.

Here's a good photo of a shorter one.

Here's the 10 foot cable.

There is absolutely no reason for a cable to affect battery life. A 3 meter cable might charge slightly slower due to the extra resistance, but it's well within the USB cable spec so I'd be surprised if the difference could be measured without lab equipment.

The 3M length is great because I can plug it in at the outlet and still perch my iPhone atop my Mac Pro where the signal is higher. :p It's also nice to take calls with it still charging - although the 6+ battery life is so awesome that I haven't needed to do so yet.

The 3m Griffin looks nice indeed and that is exactly the type of cable I would buy if I'm going for a cable replacement.

To still be able to use the Monster cable though, has any one of y'all tried 30-pin to 8-pin adapters?
I can't decide if it would be a better investment if I bought an authentic Apple adapter, which will cost me quite a bit of money, but at the same time I can't be sure if my phone would be safe with a cheap Chinese counterpart.

Just for reference, I haven't had the best experience with Chinese accessories. I had ordered a 3m cable from China about a year ago: after about half an hour it would cause the plug to overheat and stop charging my iPad. The battery life seemed to have decreased slightly after two days of using that cable.

I know it's not much of a topic to discuss, but I'm trying to decide where to invest my money :)
