Connects to WiFi but reverts to Edge

My iphone connects to my work WiFi network and uses it just fine. My brother's phone connects just fine, then reverts to Edge when he accesses anything like Safari or Youtube. We thought he had a defective phone, so he got it exchanged at the Apple Store and the brand new phone has the same problem. We put in the WEP password just like I did on my phone and it connects. We can see the airport icon at the top. Then, he goes to Safari and the airport icon changes to Edge. When I look at his network settings, I can see that his phone has no ip address. We've tried "forgetting" the network and rejoining and the same thing happens. Any ideas on what the problem might be? I have our cable modem going into a Microsoft MN700 wireless in access point mode, then out to a router that connects to our corporate network. Laptops and such have no problems using wireless here. Could it be some problem like only ONE iPhone can use the wireless for some reason?

I am haveing the same problem now. Was working fine yesterday but now i am getting no IP address.

I was at the Apple Store a little while ago and the guy was saying his guess would be that Apple will address a whole bunch of issues like this in a software update. Sounds about right to me actually.

If there is wep enabled ensure that you select the security option of WEP HEX or ASCII, works all the time for me now.

Reset & Shut Off the iPhone

Apparently Reseting the iPhone (either a soft = hold down the Sleep/wake button and the home button until the apple logo appears on the screen, or a hard reset = reseting when you sync your iPhone with iTunes) helps fix a multitude of problems. It's helped clear up this same thing for me. Also shutting the phone completely off (holding the sleep/wake button until prompted to turn off the phone with a slide swipe) is also a great thing to do every day or every other day.

These are a little inconvenient at this point, but until an update is issued to repair some of these issues it's what we'll have to deal with for now. To me it's a small price to pay for a really sweet phone!

Well, the thing is on my phone I didn't have to select WEP hex or anything, it just works. His phone works sometimes but not always.

Sounds like the WEP/HEX issue. I had that problem with the same symptoms as you. You said that your phone works and didn't have to enter a password. Maybe I miss read that, but if true, my feeling is that you are not connected to your secure wifi, but a neighbors open network. Double check that. If you are connected to your home network, then your AScii/Hex setting is probably set correctly.

To make sure for your brother:

Settings-> wifi -> choose your home network -> enter WEP password -> save -> go back into that connections settings -> scroll down to advanced settings -> select the correct password type (likely ascii/hex, you can also do this when entering the password, just click the WEP Password box and it will give you the options) -> save.

99% that corrects the issue.

Hmm, I have this problem with a router at work. Will have to try the options for WEP HEX/ASCII
