My last three iPhones have been the Pro Max series and there is no way I could go back to a smaller screen. Glad I got my 14PM at launch as it is looking like next year if ordered today. China is closing the factory due to Covid again so who knows.

I do not believe that the IPHONE factory has or is going to be “closed”.. they are at reduced capacity, but still operating in a closed loop with current employees, which is apparently down about 5%. Things could certainly change, but closed is not the current state or at least the expected future state.

I think 14 Plus is a sign of future pattern with Apple where the previous year Pro Max is passed down to the more affordable line. It just so happens that this is the year where it's starting to look very obvious, so there's overlap.

At the moment, it's very easy in Toronto, and I suspect many other cities, to get a brand new 13 Pro Max from 3rd party retailers. Best Buy, carriers, etc still have plenty of them. When these are gone, then yes, the 14 Plus will be the default. And the 13 Pro Max will be a rare smart buy, if you can find them.
The 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max were sold out but I lucked out on a brand new 13 Pro Max Alpine Green 256 GB from Freedom for a great price. Coming from the SE 2020, I'm a happy camper.

The 8+ is going end of life (EOL) probably next year.
It's a good point, I think anyone having this device should certainly do the ~$39 battery replacement done by apple to help it last through the next 10-12 months and/or serve as a solid replacement/travel device. I'm down to about %78 battery capability at this point, which works for me but still i'd like to get back to what, five years ago now usability?

funny having so much free time with thanksgiving holiday watching tv shoes (housewives of Salt Lake City) almost all Bravo shows, showing non pro models!? Thought these people were millionaires? Looks to be just regular 14 or plus or 13 models.. lol

Wealth doesn’t always translate to preference in mobile phones I suppose. I know very few people who buy Pro model iPhones despite having the disposable income to afford them. I could have got a 14 Pro this year but had a personal threshold for what I wanted to spend. Everyone is different.

Yes exactly!

I too can afford the 14PM with gazillion GB of storage, but I don't need all those features.

Love my 14 Plus just the way it was designed - for me!

You make a good point about the bigger price difference outside of US. At $300 less I would probably go with the Plus as well.
I got my plus for $400 so yeah I’m feeling good. It’s a great phone. The battery lasts me 2 days. I’m not a hardcore phone nerd who needs the latest and greatest every year though.

Exactly. One of my friends is this way. She is pretty loaded and will drop serious money on designer handbags, clothes, sunglasses, etc but gets the base model iPhone every time lol. She takes a lot of photos and videos for social media as well. To her the base models are perfectly enough, and she prefers the colors lol. Her husband is a techie who only gets pro max’s, so she definitely knows the differences. However, she doesn’t care.

In fact, her husband and my mom are the only people I know who have pros. Can’t speak for other places, but they are rarely seen in my area. Base models are the norm here. I mostly see celebrities and social media influencers with them. Everyone has different wants and needs when it comes to their phones.

Back in September my upgrade was due and I opted for a new 13 Pro on contract and my wife bought the 13 Pro Max which we ended up swapping after a week. The cost was the same as the 14 Plus but unfortunately that device was released some weeks later and I didn't want to wait. Its a great phone though and gives the user a big screen for around £250 cheaper than a 14 Pro Max. In my circles its a good mix of iPhones and Androids (used to be nearly all iPhone) but most are standard non-Pro devices and I think this is a reflection of how expensive mobile phones are getting but also how good mid-tier devices are. The fact of the matter is you don't have to buy a Pro iPhone to get a capable phone these days. I know some on this forum think our mobile phones portray an image of wealth and success, but the reality is this couldn't be further from the truth.

Yup. None of my comments or evaluations have anything to do with money. I could buy the top of the line iPhone every year, outright, with max storage, etc. Doesn't matter. A phone that's too fat, heavy, and uncomfortable is too fat, heavy, and uncomfortable, period. I'm not sure who's carrying around these fat forking phones in their pockets, but I feel sorry for them! (Maybe Apple is pushing its users toward the forthcoming iPhone Backpack!)

I bought an SE earlier this year and am looking forward to transitioning to that when my 8 Plus starts feeling old, which is not yet.

I personally haven't had any problems carrying around a 14 Pro Max at all. I think that might depend on the depth of the person's pockets and their clothing though. The issue I do have with it though is the overall weight and feel in hand. A swap out to another specific clear case I have on it, makes the device much more manageable though.

While the 14 Plus is somewhat lighter than the 14 Pro Max and definitely noticeable, we aren't talking worlds of difference here. It's like approx. 1.3 ounces lighter, not like this is a one pound or more discrepancy lol.

I purchased and set up an SE 2022 for my Father though (he wouldn't compromise on the home button) and gotta say -- that did feel amazing in the hand. Such a sleek little device with a lot of power.

the weight difference can't be underestimated tho.. and for the pics, I showed a few folks blinded photos in the family and most preferred those coming from the 14 plus, it produces a more vibrant photo..

Yeah what someone thinks is a benefit, another will be less compelled. Whether you’ve got a 14 Plus or a 14 Pro Max, you can rest assured you’ve got a very capable iPhone in 2022.

This is exactly why I bought my Dad the SE 2022. Even outside these choices, it's still got A15 for longevity of support and he doesn't want an iPhone without a home button. I offered other more expensive options (eg. iPhone 13 Mini since it's still a compact iPhone) but he doesn't want any of those. Not everyone desires or even wants the same thing, even when more expensive options are offered to them for free.

The SE is a realistic phone, a device that you can slip in your pocket and get on with your life. I'd like to see Apple make the SE even smaller. Make the bezels smaller (since they can now), and give us a phone that's just the size of the current SE screen.

I've taken to carrying not only a phone but airpods v2. Slip those and an SE in my pocket, it works.

I’ve purchased a 14 class mostly for the weight and I can tell you it’s very lightweight almost featherweight. It really does make me wonder why the 14 promax? I do do photography but honestly that’s the only advantage 14 pro max. it really is a pleasure to use. I just don’t understand why all the negativity honestly and I’m critical.

I saw both these phones for the first time yesterday, and by God is the Pro and Pro Max ugly! Those 'gigantic' rear cameras just look an utter design mess!

No way, I picked up the 14 Plus and it was like picking up air next to the Pro Max, it's bigger body made it feel lighter then the standard 14. So for me I'm going to wait for the 15 Plus as it's rumoured to get that island at the top. Design wise looking it's a lot less ugly and usability wise it's better due to its lighter weight, the 14 Plus was a clear winner. I may even give in and just get the 14 Plus anyway.

Everyone's different but that's my opinion.

As for the wealth thing, I see more standard sized iPhones, wether they are normal or Pro models, than any other model. Especially amongst women they seem to mostly have standard none Pro 6.1" iPhones no matter how rich they are.
I think I just need a bigger screen.
