As the title says, I'm considering buying an iPhone. I'm someone who loves to have the latest thing on the market, so I would like to buy a new iPhone as soon as it hits the shelves. I'm not sure if I have the patience though. My previous contract is about to end (2 weeks) and I'm not sure when Apple will release a new iPhone.

What would you guys do in my position? And more importantly, when do you think they will release it? According to the Buyers Guide it would only take about two more months. I don't believe that though, think it'll be closer to 6.

Please help me out here guys! And thanks in advance.

I would by one now. You realize that you still have to wait 8 to 9 months, and that that there probably will be a waiting list which can make sure you have to wait another month.

Seriously, you should take the new one. Why wait, if you already can have one right now. A few weeks ago a guy which aged something was just turned into 80 saved a lot of money all his life and he wanted to use it from when he was 80 so he never had to work anymore and wanted to end his life in a good way.

Guess what, just a month 80 and died because of a car accident. He waited all his life for using it, and now he is dead. I'm not saying you will be dead within a year, but you get the point? Grab your chance!

Even though Zorbix is Dutch (like me), than it isn't nice to don't response in English. Maybe more people have got the same question.

For others who don't get what SteveMobs is saying:

"What are you going to use in the meanwhile? If your contract expires in two weeks, than you won't have a cell phone. My iPhone contract expires in february, so than I don't have to wait that long. I do expect that the new iPhone will be very different from what we now have."

Ok, weh weh. I felt like writing in Dutch.

you could always considering driving your car 120mph into a concert wall for making a thread like this seeing as there are at least 10 ones asking the same question. if you do drive your car into a concert wall your original question will be answered for you,

This mentality of telling people to wait 8 MONTHS is ridiculous.

If you have the money now, go ahead and buy one. If you continually ask "should I wait for the update", you'll never own an iPhone. Ever.

You'll just sit there chasing your own tail.

Just get it now if you have the cash. Like said earlier, if you keep waiting for the next one you will never have one. I just got the 32 GB version. Had the LG Dare from Verizon and have no regrets!

@SteveMobs: That's another problem. I don't know what to do. Paying the same amount of money without getting a new phone would be a waste. Taking a sim-only or a new phone with a 1-year contract wouldn't be very smart as that way I still won't have it the minute it hits the stores. Only thing remaining to consider as far as I can think of is getting a pre-paid contract, though I hate pre-paid, having to buy minutes every time I run out.
And I'm afraid it will be very different too, that's why I'm having all this doubts.

That post doesn't make any sense whatsoever. First of: I'd just like to know some opinions, maybe someone comes up with something I hadn't thought about yet which'll make my dicision easier.
More importantly: I was also asking how long you guys think it'll take before the new one will be released, which could make the dicision easier or harder.

That doesn't make sense either. I'm not asking myself that question continually. I'm asking it, cause there are some features I would really like to see in the next iPhone, plus, it came out about 4 months ago and I like buying them the month it comes out. Bought my MBP the day it came out too. And there's always the option of waiting in the line the day it's released ;)

It will almost certainly be in June or July again. Anything other than that time period will just be minor upgrades (something like more storage).

i'd wait for the new iphone to come out. 3gs is not worth it and is barely an upgrade from 3g. in essence you'd be getting a really old phone by the time the next one comes out in june/july.

definitely wait 5 more revisions. phones in 2015 will for sure have even more cameras probably. just pray they don't make anything new in 2016 or you'll likely be disappointed again.

... ;)

id weight unitl the newxt one comes out. Its gonna have 2 cameras like the DSi.
Ew! More baseless rumors!

I disagree. There's a chance that the Russians might blow up the entire US and/or world in which case the iPhone production line would be obliterated, he needs to get his 3GS NAO. I mean it's better to have an iPhone 3gs in your bunker than nothing....ooo but i doubt you'll get 3G service underground.

Definitely wait

The 3GS added some nice things, but I expect that the next phone will utilize more chips designed in-house and hopefully will get a redesign.

  • Should be the first iPhone with a reasonable battery life
  • Expect them to finally deliver a higher resolution screen
  • New chips should give better performance at less battery cost
  • Hopefully camera resolution will be bumped up
  • The glossy plastic case was never a winner in my book

If you get an iPhone now, you'll either over-pay or get locked into a contract that won't allow you to get the next phone in June.

The 3GS was a nice bump, but I expect the hardware inside and out to change fairly significantly with the next go round. Of course, the OS will basically be the same, and there's nothing wrong with that.

The iPhone has ruined every other phone for me.

Russia probably couldn't hit the nearest ocean with a missile if they tried... let alone reach the U.S.

Now North Korea on the other hand, at least they're willing to make their entire population starve to get some missiles off the ground! :D

I would wait until june. I have a 3G and I am out of contract with T-Mobile and am waiting for the next iPhone to port to AT&T.

same, I would wait.

If you buy now and if you're not able to upgrade when the new iphone comes out, you'll be screwed..

sacrifice not having an iphone for till next summer, then you'll have a very new product..

Get it now! Eight months is alot of time to be enjoying the iPhone.

I agree. If it was less than 4 months the OP should wait, but 8-9 months no way.
