Hey guys,

Im sure that if you have used an app like fring, i bet you have been more than disappointed with it when it comes to voice quailty, delay etc.

In the following months i will be launching a new company providing voip services to the general public.

Anyways, what im thinking of doing it building a basic Sip app that allows you to connect to any sip provider (except skype of course because of how it works in terms of protocols)

Unlike fring it would not connection to our servers, then go out from there. It would just go straight to the sip server then back to you. so in theory, illuminating alot of delay.

I have used alot of wireless sip phones before and using my own network. (Not internal, but external, hosted at DC) i have about 0.5sec delay. Not at all noticable. Would people say pay £0.59 or $0.99 for a decent sip app that dailed calls/recieved them.

I would also then be considering building a pro version of this where you could have multiple lines, on hold etc.

any thoughts/suggestions would be great.

Best.

goodluck and multiple callers is a great idea. Try to expand it like fring by including messenger services such as msn, yahoo, aol etc.....
What also lacks in fring is speakerphone, that maybe a good feature.

And in future u can integrate facebook.....
Hope this helps, if u need more user visual experience advice, I'd be happy to help at no cost.

I would definitely pay for such application. I've actually been waiting for it since the App store started working.

Contrary to Bingbonghoho, I would really want to have a plain SIP application. SIP phones and IM are two very different things, IMO. I would also appreciate the fact of having multiple SIP accounts and STUN support.

I had a Nokia N95 8GB before I got my iPhone and I must say that SIP integration was great using the built in VoIP capabilities. Making and receiving Internet calls was truly transparent. Sound quality was very good over WiFi.

If you develop this program, you can count me as your first buyer.

Hey guys.

Thanks for your suggestions.

Well it will be a SIP ONLY APP! i will not be including things like msn, yahoo, facebook etc because there are other apps out there that can do that. Also i feel i just want it to be a phone with simple, but good features.

Well ive never developed on the apple platform before, but done a fair bit of windows/linux programming. So ive just ordered a few books on Objective -C, Xcode extra to get started. But i will soon be starting hopefully. I would like to get a beta product done up by the end of January and it to be in the app store mid-late feb.

Any other suggestion would be great.

Best,
Nathaniel

I would love such an app, i have already spent a lot of money buying numerous of them to test them out. Just wondering is there any update on this?
