doubtful... new iPods around that time although i guess that didn't stop them last year with iMacs... guess they believed the credit crunch didn't hit anyone
Normally, Apple releases an update to one major product per quarter. It seems that once per year it also has a larger or more extensive update to either the Mac notebooks or Mac desktops.
Look at last calendar year (2009) for example... Mac Desktops, Mac Notebooks, iPhone, iPods, Mac Desktops (a huge iMac update). Almost every year it is that way.
2010 is missing a first calendar quarter update (second fiscal quarter)! This has to be either a calculated thing because iMacs are selling strong, or that the Mac notebooks were delayed due to loss of Nvidia chipsets for Arrandale or that the iPad was supposed to be ready at least a few months earlier than start of April. I wouldn't be surprised if the iPad was originally supposed to be released by mid-February or the Mac notebooks were supposed to be updated in January. Apple doesn't wait this long before Mac notebook updates, so something is going on. It could really be that Intel or Intel's anti-competitive thrashing of Nvidia's GPU/chipset really through Apple for a look. I wouldn't doubt it if Apple was really pissed when Intel released its Core Series Arrandale CPUs with its piss poor GMA IGP included. In the end, Apple can turn off that on die IGP, but I don't know what happens to TDP savings.
I would guarantee that Apple will update its Mac notebooks before iPhones if I knew iMac sales weren't through the roof. I believe the iMac is really selling well. Heck, it's $1449 for a 3+ GHz C2D, 27" LED ACD, and ATI graphics via refurbished section at Apple.com. A lot of people are probably buying the iMac for its display capabilities alone. Heck, I was considering updating to an iMac for display purposes only for use with my MBA. It's a real bargain, but a new ACD at 27" and maybe 32" would be great. If the price is right, I will do that especially if it has a lot of docking station like extras. Right now the iMac can be used like a SERVER with FireWire, its own DVD drive, 1 TB hard drive and 3 GHz CPU, and up to 16 GB of RAM. The iMac is HOT HOT HOT! It has to be selling really well. And it's considerably less expensive than anyone could have figured.
Anyways, if iPad and iMac sales continue being hot, Apple could put the Mac notebooks off as long as the need to. The iPhone is coming out at WWDC. Then iPods come out a few months later. Or Apple could turn the whole plan upside down by throwing the iPad into the mixup... who really knows other than Apple? None of us for sure. I set my alarm early every Tuesday to see if the MBA got its update. A lot of us want an update for sure.
Waiting for the MBA update is getting old. I really want Apple to knock it out of the park with the MBA update just like it did with the iMac update last Fall!
