I was in my local pawn shop the other day looking at a drone he had for sale, and noticed he also has an iPad Air m1 64gb Wi-Fi only model available, he said he would sell it to me for $400. Wondering if I should consider getting it, or keep my perfectally functioning 10.5 inch iPad Pro 256gb Wi-Fi model? Pretty sure the m1 chip will run circles around the 10.5 pro.

The new one is certainly faster but personally if I don’t see a need to upgrade I tend to keep my stuff until it breaks.

At the same time, life is short and you should treat yourself! Maybe you can trade that old iPad in?

I’d keep your present iPad, unless you really need the better performance. The M1 is definitely faster, but unless you’re using Procreate, Shapr3D et al., you won’t benefit from it.

My boyfriend says the same thing, saying you just started your drone business, and bought 3 drones recent, and he has the same iPad Pro that I do, and said he would rather have the more storage space than a slightly faster processor.

I agree with the two posting.. keep your current iPad, unless you find the tasks you do better served on the M1 iPad.

You have to ask yourself… would you care to use resizing windows? does external support interest you? If you are content with how you use the iPad currently… don’t bother with the M1 iPad.

My 10.5 inch pro does everything I want it to, only has a small crack in the glass, screen works fine, and got it for $30 at a garage sale…. Thing is isnt the m1 like a second faster?

The 10.5 iPad Pro was released in 2017 and iPad Air. Fifth generation released 2022 10.5 has four gigs ram air 8gb ram Yes, the storage is less Do you use your storage to the fullest I can promise you that your 10.5 will not re-sell or trade well with a cracked screen just food for thought.

same boat as you.

i traded in all my ipads, from my Mini 5, 12.9 2020 and 11" Pro 2018, (had to invest in a studio and matching macbook 16)

i kept my 10.5 which still works just fine. considering my use case currently, is an e-reader , some content consumption when bored, and controls my guitar amp lol . to be honest it feels just fine, snappy enough, i don't use the pencil or , like mentioned procreate or similar demanding apps. from someone who lived on his 12.9, its odd how quickly we adjust (i am no lugging a 16" around the house haha)

with the M2 on the horizon, i have decided to wait and make full use of what i have currently.

I would most likely keep my 10.5 pro and get a tablet mount for the controller for my drone, and use the pro for the display instead of my phone

Well now I am like pissed. Went back to the pawn shop to try and make a deal with him on the iPad Air m1 64gb Wi-Fi for $400, and it was sold. Looks like I will be stuck with my 10.5 iPad Pro 256gb model. Ugh.

Lesson learned. If you find a deal you like, go for it. You never know when it won’t be available any longer (especially with a one-off like this one).

The only person to be mad at is yourself because you didn’t get it when you had the chance.

and since when is he not obligated to do as I said and call me before he sells it?

Frankly, always. Calling you is a courtesy. Verbal agreements are generally non-binding.

Downside for the business is they'll probably lose you as a customer.

Part of me feels like I am kinda owed something due to all the sacrifices the Illinois governor and mayor of Chicago put people thru over this covid-19 issue, without compensating me.
As in 2 + 2 equals 5… for large numbers of 2? This is as best an attempt on a non sequitur argument, isn’t it?

Calling is a courtesy, and if busy, that is calling someone that wants to short me on price does not qualify for meet the price consideration. You want to pay what I am asking, fine. Don't, that's fine too. If someone comes in and wants to pay what I want, why would I ask you if you now want to pay that?

And to make matters worse, my boyfriend who has the same iPad Pro seems to think having the latest processor is not worth having less storage and no promotion, and less speakers, and seems to think the 10.5 iPad is plenty fast, when the m1 is likely at least a tenth of a second faster

Considering iOS+Other now takes up around 20GB storage, I wouldn't downgrade from 256GB to 64GB either.

That said, I find devices with A12 and newer to be noticeably more responsive compared to the iPad Pro 10.5 and not just 1/10th of a second faster.

Do as YOU said? Did he promise to call you? Why should he do that if he has someone ready to pay? You didn’t buy it when you had the chance. He took the first offer of payment, which is good business.
