I'm a bit concerned about the temperatures on my iMac's HDD. I attached a screen-shot of the iStat data. I did download smcFanControl and have set the HDD speed to 2000 RPM. Does anyone have any thoughts? Thanks very much.

58C is too high for me...

what it affects is lifespan it wont explode :p ....but if u want the hd to last years then this isnt so good

turn up smcfancontrol.... everyone has different ideas but in my case i try to keep hd temps not high over 50C for long periods

one tip if its true but i think it is.... i read that turning up a bit all fans under smcfancontrol works better than for example apple defaults for cpu and dvd and just turning up hd fan... as they all work together to flow air through

if u enjoy paranoia use an app which puts your hd temp in your menubar

It worked...

I did as you suggested and increased the fan speed. The increase in noise level was only minimal but the temps decreased to 47-48 deg C. Thanks for the tip.
