Do you think the reason imac does not have hdmi video input is because that would put stuff like kanex xd or the belkin av360 that convert hdmi to displayport .. obsolete? .... do you think these companies paid apple not to have hdmi so that they could all get some action ?? seriously though .. how awesome would it be if you could just connect your xbox 360 to 27inch imac with hdmi and play in glorious 1080p .. darn it

Yes. That sucks ain't it? Even Mac Mini and Apple Tv easily have hdmi output so u can easily hook them onto external display/projector

Even mbp which supposed to have easy connection for projector for office/college activites, they don't have hdmi. What were u thinking apple?

my point exactly .. i mean is it too much to ask .. i just wana plug in my xbox to imac and play ..im payin freakin £2000 for the 27inch imacs atleast give me that? come on Jobsy?? lol

It's very simple:
Mini DisplayPort - no licence fee.
HDMI - licence fee ($10,000 p.a. as far as I know).

Just found a source: http://www.theinquirer.net/inquirer/news/1003502/hdmi-licence-costs-cents-device
So HDMI costs $10,000 annual membership fee + 4 Cents per device.

/edit:
Source is out of date. Up-to-date Source (http://www.hdmi.org/manufacturer/adopter_registration.aspx) says:
Manufacturers of End Products that will include HDMI:
a. Ten thousand fixed annual licensing fee plus royalty
b. Five thousand annual licensing fee plus $1.00 administration fee per licensed product plus royalty

Manufacturers of Test Equipment:
a. Test Equipment Manufacturer Agreement with $10,000 annual licensing fee
b. Test Equipment Manufacturer Agreement with $5,000 annual licensing fee plus $1.00 administration fee per test equipment unit sold

Its why Glenn Beck went off the air.

If you hooked your xbox to a 27" iMac, with its 2560 x 1440 resolution, it would actually have to down res to 1080p.

Look worse.

apple could give a rats ass about belkin.

No, its the same reason there is no blu-ray, Apple would have to pay somebody royalties for every device that uses it.

Yeah but apple tv and mac mini, two of CHEAPEST apple non iOS product use hdmi, which means they contribute biggest Percentage for rOyalty fee, don't u think?

Still it's hilarious and strange. For me, it's because apple sees mdp as their pride and ultimate display solution for their elite products

And OTOH apple see hdmi as CHEAP and POOR MAN'S HIDEF, that's why apple use it on their cheapest products

Considering HDMI is the consumer standard for HD connections in the U.S., it's kind of a pain that most of their products don't have it. If I want to use display port for anything I have to buy a converter for it :/

i sent an email to mr jobs asking him why we don't have hdmi on imac lol ..will he reply? doubt it

Well if he indeed reply, he'll just say hdmi is bag of hurt. You know, the usual drill when apple is asked to put something that should've been there on their macs

No HDMI on my iMac just makes me ill. Bought a new Mitsubishi 40" LED LCD (1080p) yesterday to act as a second monitor for both my Mac and PC, and guess what?, you're right the MDP is worthless. The picture from the Mac is worthless, yet the PC with HDMI out gives a great picture (all around) along with surround sound. Way to go "APPLE."
