Constant email check after ios5 install

Ever since installing ios5 on my phone it has lost batt power at an alarming rate. I noticed that it is constantly checking emails. I have email accounts set to check every 15 minutes but when I go to mail it gets stuck on a loop. I have tried resetting but no luck. Any thoughts?
