Mac Mini 2018 (i5, 8GB RAM). BS 11.6.3

Since updating from Mojave to Big Sur Ive had frequent kernel panics while my Mac is doing nothing. Usually wakeup to a rebooted mac.

The weird thing is, upon reboot it signs me out of icloud, and I have to resign in. (it has my credentials, I just have to hit sign-in in system preferences panel).

Only weird thing is I use the Satechi Mac Mini Dock /w M.2 SSD slot. Might have corresponded when I got that (upgraded to BS at the same time).

I mention this because I also get "Eject <drive name> before disconnecting or turning off" error messages, but I am not turning it off and the drive is still there.

I have a similar issue with Monterey. Without the iCloud and drive problems, I sometimes wake my Mac to see it has rebooted over night or sometimes since I last used it 10 minutes ago. I can’t confirm if this is still happening with the most recent version of Monterey, but it did happen previously.

I had this problem when I first installed BS. I did a complete wipe and then an internet recovery and went back to Catalina. I watched the system for a couple of weeks to make sure there were no KPs; since there weren't I updated to BS again on the idea that the first install was the problem. No KPs with the second install of BS.

FWIW. 2 Weeks in on Monterey 12.3 (and 12.3.1) and not one KP yet... I didn't even do a clean install, just the upgrade from BS 11.6.4. I hope this post doesn't jynx it but if you are having KPs on Big Sur, give Monterey 12.3.1 a try... though the Monterey forum has people with KPs on it so YMMY.

The most likely cause for a Kernel Trap or Kernel Panic issue occurs in MacOS is faulty software, damaged or incompatible hardware, including external drives attached to the Mac. To fix the issue, try the below steps:

1. Restart your Mac in Safe Mode and check for updates.
2. Uninstall any plug-ins or 3rd party software from manufacturers other than Apple.
3. Disconnect all connected devices.
4. Use Apple diagnostics to diagnose the problem.
5. Reset PRAM/NVRAM settings.
6. Reset SMC (System Management Controller) settings.
7. Reset the GPU (Graphics Processing Unit).

Hope it helps!
