Our studio has had two new mac pros (desktop and rack) that have this near routine issue with the power button not booting the computer up.

i know this is common enough that Apple has a help article about it but I’m curious how common this is for other people? Feels insane that we have two brand new computers with the same issue.

Anybody manage to solve this?

So how do you get it to boot up? I am still waiting on mine to come in. It concerns me that these kinds of problems have not been solved by now. I would expect things like this and the sleep issues, etc. to happen on day-one, but seems like they would be all over these basic functions by now.

I think if this problem was systemic there would be many posts and threads here on Mac Rumors discussing it.
The posts that I have read were in regards to taking off the cover and then reseating it and the power button not working (because it didn't properly connect). I had this problem when I added RAM. After taking it off and putting it back on, power button didn't work. I lifted the case and pushed down harder and it worked fine. I am not saying this is the OPs issue... just that it can happen after the case is opened. If repositioning the case doesn't fit the problem, then there is a mechanical issue that the OP should consult Apple about, to my mind of thinking.

Its intermittent— we have to do that SMC reset every once in a while.

so every, say, 8 reboots, 1 time it won’t boot up until after several attempts. But for the non techy person using the gear who paid exorbitant amounts of money, it’s concerning

no I mean— please go into more detail I’ll try anything if it sounds reasonable, and we did install 3rd party ram like many people

Yikes. I'm grateful I haven't had any boot issues since I've owned it. What have you installed on these machines that are not included from factory? Memory modules, PCIe cards, GPU?

When you say not booting the computer up... what do you mean. It’s just unresponsive. Touch wood I’ve not seen this issue in any way. And it’s really odd if you have two systems with the exact same issue... by chance so you turn them on then walk away?

Did you have the problem before changing the ram. Safe to say you probably did this with both systems. Seems that both with issue have the exact same upgrade suggesting maybe dodgy ram... not all ram is made equal. There are many posts with people having bad ram on here.
