Hi, I just recently got a brand new pair of AirPods Pro 2 (bought from a big retailer so don't believe it's fake or anything) and they make like a constant white noise even with nothing playing. At first I genuinely thought it was raining outside it was that loud. I was in silence too during the early hours of the morning indoors so nothing external appears to be the culprit. Is it normal to hear something like this? Or should it be dead silent? I came from the original Airpods 2 that were completely silent until I played something.

I’ve made sure Background sounds are off, tried transparency mode, noise cancellation mode, turned off and on conversation awareness, switched off Spatial Audio and even turned on the mode to allow noise cancellation to be completely turned off. I've also used different ear tips and ensured I was getting a good fit. Using Noise Cancellation mode does appear to dampen this 'white noise' compared to Transparency mode but I still hear something there.

Thank you.

if you haven't, try toggling background sounds on and then off again, it's possible the interface has gotten out of sync with the actual setting.

reboot your phone

reset the AirPods https://support.apple.com/en-us/118531

make sure the airpods are updated, just put both the phone and pods on charge and close to each other, it usually happens within 30 minutes, usually less, there's no way to force it to start.
I think the current version is 7B21, found in the main settings app on your phone when your pods are out of the case or the case is open.

Hi, and thank you for the suggestions. I’ve toggled on and off backgrounds sounds, rebooted my phone but I’ve also tried them with multiple Apple devices so I don’t believe it’s one device in particular causing it. Reset and repaired the AirPods, and checked that I’m on the most up to date firmware… it’s funny because when I first wore them, I didn’t notice it. It was after a charge and potentially after an update that night I got them that I noticed the noise. Also when doing the hearing test, the constant sound I’m hearing completely vanishes and then comes back once exiting the test, so I believe this is a software issue rather than anything wrong with the AirPods themselves.
