Question (searched first and didn't seem to find something although I am sure it's been discussed)

I'm cancelling my mobileme account (had a 2 month trial). Not concerned about emails (cleared out everything + all files on mobile me).

I do have my contacts synched to mobileme though. So when I deleted the mobileme account on my 3GS - I lost all my contacts. Easy fix (for moment) was that I added the mobileme account back as I obviously need to retain those.

Is there a way (not at my home computer but at work) where I can retain my contacts and remove mobileme/cancel mobile me. Or is this something I need to do at my computer tonight so I can adjust how I sync, etc?

What's the best way to kill mobileme but retain my contacts (the short version) lol

thanks

I would make an Address Book Archive on your Mac, sign out of mobileme via System Preferences to prevent further syncing between computer and the servers, cancel mobileme/remove it from the phone. If your contacts get deleted from Address Book, you can very easily restore from the Archive.

If you use Windows/Outlook, export your contacts (newer versions of Outlook will let you do that as one CSV

sync them with google. you would want to export your contact and import them in google calender. otherwise your phone will get wiped clean again.

You don't really need to sync with another service. Just make sure you have a backup of your Address Book (via your computer - you should ALWAYS have a backup, you know).

When you sever the ties between the phone and MM, it will wipe the info from you phone. Once you have disabled all the syncing with MM and your computer, just re-sync the contacts/phone via itunes.

Address Book and .me account

This is slightly related: I opened my address book to find that there is only one contact left in it, the noreply@googlemail.com address, which I presume happened when I logged on to Google Groups last week. Now I have the address book on my .me account, and want to back that up and make it sync with my Mac Address book to restore the addresses, but I am fearful that something will wipe those too. Any ideas on:

How to back up the address book from .me account because that is the only place my addresses currently live
How to get these addresses from the .me account to my Mac.

Ps I am not operating Snow Leopard.

Thanks

Selcuk
