Contacts disappearing from my phone without reason.

A lot of my contacts have disappeared from my phone in the last few days. I've called some of them just few days ago and when I try to call now they are just not there and there is no trace of them whatsoever. If I enter them again as new contact, they show back in the call history as if they've always have been there. In some cases the name of the contact and email is there, but the phone number or one of their numbers are missing. In other all the information is just gone. And no, I have not deleted anything from my phone.

Does anyone have any idea why this might be happening?

Contacts might be synced with icloud on multiple devices.
So if another device on the same icloud id deletes them they get removed from the account and all synced devices.
Settings, icloud, contacts.

I had a similar problem some time back, after I used "merge duplicate contacts" on my Mac. Thereafter, many contacts disappeared on my phone and I had to recreate them from scratch.

I can only surmise that iCloud was wonky that day and just blame my itchy fingers.

They are synced with my computer and I just found that the same info is missing there too, but I can't find any reason why. I haven't touched any of my contact lists in a long time and I just added some new contacts a week ago and now they are missing too. I guess I can reset the whole phone from my last backup on Icloud, but I just don't want this to happen again. That's why I'm looking for the reason.

Log out from your iCloud account on the phone and than login again, it could help getting the contacts back. Also, it should be wise to have your contacts backed up somewhere else. I am always using an alternative "safe" like iLite Contacts. You can find it at AppStore.
