iPhone Contact's - Groups

Hello: Is it true that I need a third party app to delete a group in ios 13 contacts? In what world does that make any sense? And what are the blue checkmarks next to my groups? I can find no reference to them anywhere. Unchecking seems to make no difference whatsoever.
I think Apple must keep their online support and information missing or impossible to find so we have buy Apple(doesn't)Care.

This has been going on since the dark ages. For some reason Apple has never deemed it necessary to allow full control over contact groups in iOS, requiring third party apps to fill the gap.
