Hi everyone,

I'm posting on behalf of a friend that's just upgraded to iOS 9. Under 8, he had his most recent contacts available from the app switcher, so that they were available with a double-press of the Home button. Since installing 9, they're gone. Does anyone know how to bring them back? Alternatively, is there another way to easily access recent contacts?

Swipe right from the 1st home screen.

Thanks, but hmm, that works on my phone but not on his (there isn't a page to the left of the first page of apps). He has everything turned on under General > Spotlight Search. Any ideas?

iPhone 4S I'm assuming? I don't think the Siri pro active page (left swipe screen) is available on that phone. Also, kinda stinks that the recents is only displayed there in iOS 9.

Yes, it's a 4S. It's not looking promising, but I'd better ask whether anyone else knows a way to get the recent contacts back; apparently my friend used this feature "all the time".

Short of updating a 4 year old phone, nope. Apple has moved on and moved favourite contacts into 3D Touch on the phone app from the home screen (and recents in the Proactive Search screen on the 5, 5s and 6)

Not exactly the answer you or your friend want to hear, but that's just the reality of it. If your friend does cellular contracts, I think the 5s is the new freebie phone or could be found super cheap if not. Or even a 6 could probably be had for a very decent price.

Probably the best alternative would be to use an app that provides favorite widgets type of functionality. It's not really recent contacts, but favorites, but perhaps that would still work to some extent as they would be accessible from the Notification Center pretty much on any screen.

I'll keep an eye out for an app. I mentioned that he could roll back to 8.4 but it seems that he doesn't want to go to that much effort; the feature therefore isn't quite as critical as he first made it out to be!

It's unlikely that he'll get a new phone; even a 5s is still fairly expensive here and he's notoriously cheap (he only has an iPhone in the first place because he won it!) :)
