iPhone Contacts names missing after update

Ex iphone user here and maybe future reternee (if that's a word.

A family member has recently updated their iphone XR to the latest public release of ios13. Oddly in the contacts app it has lost all the name associations. All they see is numbers and no names. In fact I think that in the messages app it states the number and underneath its says may be aunt flo for example but not the exact name.

Weve done the obvious restart.
We have gone into icloud and switched off contacts, kept on device and switched on.
We have switched off contacts, deleted from device and switched on.

Checked icloud.com. all appear normally. On device though the issue remains.

My wife once had this happen to her. It turns out most of her contacts were saved in a live.com account and not on her icloud account.

Could this be what happened to your family member?

Hey, thanks for the response. Sadly not. They've not been an apple owner for very long and was an apple owner well after the live.com era.

Been other versions of this issue reported. Apparently, for others it depends upon the format of the numbers - some work and some don't

This has been fixed with iOS 13.1.3.
