Contacts ok on iPhone but just phone numbers on Messages on Mac Pro

Not sure what's going on. I have all of these people in my contacts. Most of them also use iPhones. On my iPhone, they all show up with their real names but on my Mac Pro, some of them show up only as phone numbers. I have tried logging out of the Messenger App, quitting it, then launching it again and re-logging in, but that did not solve the problem. Any ideas how to fix this?

iPhone 6 = current iOS 12

Is the default account in your contacts app on the iMac set to iCloud in preferences?

In any case the contacts would need to be in specific cloud account(s) that are logged in and turned on in both devices…and definitely not in the group "On my Mac" or "On my iPhone".

Both my iPhone and Mac Contacts are set to use the iCloud.

So, the solution was to open Contacts on my Mac and re-input all the phone numbers, names and email addresses. Shouldn't be this way but it is done. I hope it sticks.
