Yesterday, I noticed that some or all metadata associated with important contacts were missing on all MacOS and iOS client devices. For instance, my headshot to my profile was gone and both of my children's contacts were completely lost! When I logged into iCloud dot com, the contacts were missing or incomplete just like on my devices. I called tech support and got no actionable help aside from acknowledging there might be server issues and just wait it out. Poking around the appleid site, I saw for the first time that backups of contacts, calendars, etc. timestamped by date were in there! How long has that been the case? I chose a recent back up and it rewrote all my contacts and everything seems to be back to normal. Has anyone had this issue? How long have the backups been available to us?

the backups should be there as long as you have icloud backups turned on. I've been having a similar issue where all my contact phone numbers changed their number format and therefor are not connecting names to numbers... i think i've solved most of the issues (by manually updating the contacts after i read some of the text messages to get context on who it is) but it's very annoying to have the numbers randomly change format and only show up as numbers...
