Contacts sync by first name

In my address book on my Mac I have my contacts sorted by first name. I thought that was all I needed to do in order for the iPhone to sync exactly the same way. Numerous sync's later the iPhone contacts are sorted by last name. I'm on 1.1.1 but I know someone on 1.1.2 who has successfully sync'd their contacts by first name.

If you go to Settings>phone there should be an option for sorting order and display order. You can set it to First, Last or Last, First in order to change how you view your contacts.
