Okay guys, advice time!

I have some terrible free upgrade Sony Eriksson, and I want an iPhone.

This desire was heightened when my uncle bought my mom an iMac for graduation (yeah she just got her masters). Well, my mom loves her laptop she's been using so the iMac came up to me :D

Anyway, I want to buy an iPhone.

I'm probably going to wait for the next model to come out, if anyone has any dates let me know.

I was wondering, would I have to cancel my current contract with AT&T for an iPhone contract?

I also have about another 11 months before I get my next upgrade, so would it be cheaper to buy the phone (stand-alone) or cancel my contract and get a new one with a discounted phone?

Any other advice?

And I want to jail-break it :D I "jail-broke" my old PSP so I'm comfortable with all that good stuff.

Thanks for any and all advice,

Maxx

Usually you get early upgrade eligibility through AT&T. It's not the full discount, but it's better than full price.

Any other advice?

See the iPhone Hacks forum. Lots of good reading and discussion in there.

Thanks for any and all advice,

@GoogleMongerers... I could Google it, or ask it here, where there are people with experience and an actual human being rather than a month old article

@IBradMac,

Thanks. June/July is perfect both my uncle and my dad are getting (re)married, so they'll be in a good mood :D

I'll look into the early upgrade eligibility deal.

Thanks alot guys. :)

The PSP was like a gateway drug for hacking. It got so many people into this scene that would have never entered otherwise.

Your uncle and your dad are getting married?!?!? For the second time!?!

Enjoy the wait:)

Just be aware that jailbreaking new iPhones is not nearly as easy as it used to be. As far as I know OS 3.1.3 has NO jailbreak out of the box. It's unknown whether the next iPhone will be jailbreakable at all, though OS 4.0 may make it moot thanks to new features. Will have to wait and see.

I know that it may be unjailbreakable, but I waited 6 months before I could downgrade my PSP back to 1 OFW.

Anyway, having the iPhone alone will be a momentous occasion enough.

I heard it is going to be only for Verizon? Can someone please deny this rumor?
