So now that the update is here, I assume there will be the odd mix of complaints and whatnot. However, I have no doubt Apple will continue to tweak the software until they get it right.

My only concern is content. I bought the box the day after the keynote cause it seemed like Apple was positioning themselves well in the marketplace. I also have a TivoHD, Xbox360, Netflix & OnDemand. None of those are really doing the download/rental thing as well as I think Apple could with AppleTV. However, Tivo just announced (jan18th) a deal with Jaman to get access to all of their independent & foreign film content. Not HD, but still that is a huge deal to me. And Netflix claims to be adding Mac support later this year (but can I show content on my TV?).

So where does Apple stand now? I know Apple has deals with "all major studios". Is there anywhere I can browse the HD content available except from AppleTV? (i am at work now). I looked briefly in the iTunes store, but I don't see any HD links, cause I assume the AppleTV is the device that supports it?

It seems to me that the features of the software/hardware solution that any of the competition has in this market are of much smaller importance next to the amount of content. So now that the content race is on, how does Apple stand? Is it just a matter of waiting while they encode all their "library" titles ? Or am I silly for hoping to see old movies I have never seen from the 50s/60s/70s on the iTunes store someday?
