I've tried to search everywhere and it seems that no one in the internet have this issue, so I'm assuming I'm dumb or I have hallucinations but there we go.

Mac mini M1 8/256 with Sonoma 14.2.1

Sometimes (It seems it isn't deterministic) if I donwload a zip file and I extract by double click on that, the archive will be extracted, a new folder with the content will be created and then, almost immediately, the content will disappear! Not in the trash, it's gone forever.

Then, if I unzip again the archive, everything works correctly and the content will not be deleted

I don't understand what is happening, please help me

It seems it happens also if I extract with Keka and not with the native tool, so I don't understand

It's unbelievable

Thank you

Open Folder Actions Setup app : it's in /System/Library/CoreServices/Applications/Folder Actions Setup.app; but use Spotlight...

in case there are any for the folder(s) where this happens.

Even if not - try moving the zips to another location first.

For some reason I never open *.zip by Finder. There are many reliable tools, like "The Unarchiver".
I even wrote my own in JAVA.
The other suggestion above to move to a "safe" place is probably the best for now.
How about the Desktop directory?
