Hi

I'm thinking about buying a used iMac 27-inch, mid 2011 but it occured to me that it might not work with the new continuity and handoff features in Yosemite. Does anyone know what those features require? The mid-2011 iMac supports Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR as far as I can tell..

Thanks.

/Martin

I think the biggest requirement is that you have an iPad or iPhone to do the hand off itself. You mentioned BT 2.0 I'd be concerned that would be a problem.

Thanks for your reply.. Well, I own the latest iPhone and iPad mini, so that shouldn't be a problem. Perhaps I'd better wait then. Would be a shame to miss those feautures..

There's no info on the apple site of requirements, so its hard to say, unless a person that has a similar machine and iPhone. I don't have the beta, so I can't say either way

I have the mid-2011 27" iMac and an iPhone 5s, both of which are running Yosemite and iOS8 respectively.

I currently, can not get handoff/continuity working between the two devices, other than the ability to send/receive SMS on my iMac.

From what Ive read/understand, full functionality of handoff is only available if all devices support Bluetooth LE.

That said, It's said that for older devices it's supposed to utilise WiFi, which doesn't appear to be functioning correctly yet.

Well, it's not supposed to work. I have a mid 2011, 27" iMac and a 5s

Running Yosemite DP5 and the latest IOS Beta

Guess what, phone calls and SMS both work. Making and receiving calls, sending and receiving SMSes. Just works

iMac has bluetooth LMP 0x4

Maybe I am wrong, but SMS and phone calls are supposed to work between all Mac running Yosemite and all iDevices running iOS8, because BT is not required for that (only wifi).
