Contract iPhone to pay as you go iPhone

Hi Guys,

At the end of my contract I will obviously want to get the new the iPhone (Summer 2010). Will I be able to put a pay as you go sim card into my old iPhone 3G so that my parents can have it?

Is it a simple process of restoring the iPhone and poping the o2 sim card in?

If you buy a new sealed iPhone PAYG SIM off eBay, you will also get the 12 months free data and wi-fi.
