I know this is following speculations and rumors but i am currently an at&t customer and my contract is up and i was waiting for the iphone to upgrade.

What is to stop me now from upgrading to a pda for around $50 with a new 2-year contract and then selling it for $250 on ebay or somewhere while making $200? would make sense if anyone is able to upgrade to a new 2-year contract with at&t for the iphone? this doesnt make sense to me and probabally shouldnt be done with out more information from at&t but if this is the case wouldnt something like this be in my best interest?

You will be able to get the iPhone regardless of whether you renew or not. There is no discount on the iPhone, it is what it is. Just like if you want a new phone while under contract, you have to pay full price. Same thing here except there is no difference in price whether you are or are not under contract.

so youre saying that i can walk into my ATT store and just buy the iPhone for $499 without having to change/extend/renew my existing contract?

can you let me know as to where you got your info on this? the reason im interested is because im under a business contract and it would seem as to what little information there is at this time that I am screwed on getting a phone without opening up a personal, new account.

thx!!

I could be wrong but i interpreted it as (and other threads) that no matter where you are in a current contract you MUST extend/create a new 2-year deal with AT&T.

My only point is i dont see why more people wouldnt extend their current contract to get a phone at a cheap price and sell it to make $150-$200 towards an iphone - and if you couldnt seel it you could always return it to at&t and get the credit towards an iphone.

That's what I've always thought too, although they have taken that off their ads recently.

Why do they keep us in the dark? To create more BUZZ i imagine??

It's a new, 2 year contract, starting on the date of purchase. It replaces your current contract. This info per my phone call with AT&T yesterday afternoon.
