Contribute without .mac account?

Apologies in advance for what may be a dumb question. I'm new at this.

At work I update the company website using Contribute on a PC. I think my boss would be willing to buy me a copy of Contribute to use from my Mac at home as well. But in looking at reviews of Contribute for OSX, they always mention using it in conjunction with a .mac account. Can I configure it to run without a .mac account -- I mean, if it just uses FTP, it should work with any kind of Web setup, right?

yep. Its a powerfull tool. However I recomend, if your boss is buying it, getting Dreamweaver instead. It can be just as simple as contribute, but once you learn how to do more it is the most advanced and powerfull webdesign tool out there. But when your not ready for asvanced its freakishly point and click and WYSIWYG

I agree that Dreamweaver is a better long-term investment. But is the editing/publishing procedure (the only thing I currently know how to do) the same?... I imagine it is, if Contribute is just "Dreamweaver Lite."

Ultimatly I would say that it is. Both can be point and click.

Its pretty easy, but you can do amazing things with it if you know how.
