Apologies in advance if this is user error or ignorance. Before iOS 18, I was able to turn lights, fans, and most other smart devices on or off from Control Center with one touch: on - off. This was true even with lights that support dimming. If I wanted to dim the lights, I used a long press to bring up the slider.

In iOS 18, most (but not all) smart devices that show up in Control Center can no longer be controlled this way. A short press or touch brings up an on/off switch or (if available) a slider.

Was this an intentional change, or is this my failure to find the correct settings or options? I haven't found any discussion here or elsewhere, so either replicating the iOS 17 and prior functionality is simple or no one else cares! 🙂

For the rectangle button, tap the icon on the left to toggle it on/off. Long-press the button anywhere or tap the area to the right of the icon to get into the control.

For the single button, tap the button to toggle it on/off, long-press to get the controls.
