I only have one Apple TV. Before the most recent update I would launch the TV remote from control center, and my Apple TV would automatically be selected.

Now, every time I launch the remote app from control center I have to select my Apple TV from the drop down menu.

Is anyone else having this issue?

I was having the same issue, but after updating to tvOS 12.2 and iOS 12.2, I went into my Apple TV settings and unpaired my iPhone, then re-paired it and everything has worked great since.

That worked! Thanks, so much!

AHA!
This worked for my issue too... not only was it forgetting the Apple TV, but when I’d reconnect it, the volume and scrubbing controls wouldn’t work. Unpairing and re-pairing fixed it!
