iPad Control iPad movie viewing from iPhone

So, I like to connect my iPad to my TV via the lightning to HDMI adapter thing to watch movies, however I dont like having to get up to pause the film, rewind, etc.

Is there anyway I can control the movie playback from my iPhone? Prefer not to use Siri either.

Both running the most recent ios12 versions for each respective device (12.4 etc).

Apple TV lets you use the iPhone, Watch, or iPad as a remote. I don’t believe this can be done with just iPhone & iPad.

I haven’t found a way to do it with an iPhone but satechi does sell a remote that looks like a button that will pause/play, etc. I use it exactly
