iPad Control iPad Pro with Apple Watch?

So I travel quite a lot and take my iPad Pro 11” along for my media consumption. I like to put music on through hotel TV from my iPad.
Is there any way to control the music on my iPad from my Apple Watch?
If I can control my iPhone, HomePod and Apple TV at home (on WiFi yes) with it why can I not control my iPad?

Have you actually tried it? Are you saying that the iPad doesn’t appear in the now playing app on the watch?

Just tried it myself, and yes you’re right it’s not there. That’s really quite poor.
