control one DVR from 2 rooms?

I have a mac mini running plex in the living room, as well as a comcast DVR.
I just got a 1080p smaller tv for the bedroom.

How can I control the mac mini and dvr from the bedroom?
I know i can just plug up hdmi cables to view on the tv, but i cant control the dvr from the other room.
I need like an IR accessory?

My brother has an older Xbox 360 model with a broken disc drive.
I can put the Xbox 360 in the bedroom, but a Mad Catz wireless adapter off eBay, and use Connect360 to trick the Xbox into using the Mac Mini as a Windows Media PC. Apparently XBMC doesn't work on the 360, and Xbox 1 can't play wireless HD. That's about $40 total for that.

The DVR is harder.
Satellite companies offer DVR's with dual outputs.
I doubt Comcast does. I'll have to ask support.
Otherwise so far, I will have to run an audio cable, IR cable, and either Component or Component-DVI cable all from the DVR to the bedroom.
That's the cheapest way.

Sling box is also useful, but $$$.

I've used this for the past four years, works great.
