I've purchased the very new DSLR Remote Professional Edition and made a short test with my Canon 40D and MacBook Pro. The app works as advertised and crashed once in 30 min (okay it's version 1.0).

It's funny you can make photos like the one in the attachment.

You can even "broadcast" a local video stream (the viewfinder preview) to all iDevices with the app. Maybe I'll use it for that. Some kind of a local webcam.
