Hello!

So I'm pretty new here(first post) so don't let the awesome username startle you!

Basically I would want to be able to control the bandwidth of the internet I am sharing to others, if it is possible.
Right now I am sharing my ethernet connection via wifi to my room mate, problem is that I share to much internet to him(50/50) I guess.
Is there a way to limit his connection?

Thanks!

yes, you can accomplish this, by purchasing a small smart switch. like this for example: http://www.tp-link.com/ca/products/details/?categoryid=223&model=TL-SL2210#fea

This way, you can a) create separate VLANs so you are not on the same subnet and b) determine speed of throughput for each port... :D

There are other options available but from my understanding, generally speaking you may need a bigger switch from more capability and that comes with a bigger price tag :D though e-bay can be your friend in that department.. :d

Dont get that product linked above

Mikrotik switch is all you need. GIGABIT and Cheap as well $39

http://routerboard.com/RB260GS

if you want to use a router i like the RB951G-2HnD Gigabit and 1000mW wifi Nice little boxes.
Mikrotik and Ubiquiti is pretty much all we use in the WISP industry. I have hundreds out there in the field and almost no failure.

Have you had bad experiences with TP-Link products?
