Convert from Dev beta to public

I installed the dev beta on my phone when it came out and upgraded to beta 2. Now the public beta is out. I downloaded that profile. Let me make sure I'm correct. Since it's the same beta as dev beta 2, I won't see an update. Since I now have the public beta profile, I should start getting updates to the public beta when the next one comes out. Correct?

My membership to the developer program expired shortly after iOS 10 DP 1 came out and I had the profile installed but did not ever install iOS10. Now the public beta is out and I have downloaded that program and it still has the download for Developer Preview 2 and not public beta 1. Will installing brick my iPad? Is there a workaround that anyone knows of?

If you removed the developer profile first and then installed the public profile you should see public betas as they release. But why bother doing all of that? They're the same builds.

Well the concern was getting locked out since I am not a registered developer anymore. But easy work around found...manage storage then delete the update file then go back to updates and it finds the public beta file

Ok cool. That looks to prove then that the profile swap does work.

They release usually on different days (usually developer beta first) but the build is the same. Been that way since PB started in 8.3. Don't confuse DP 2 and PB 1 as being different because that number is different. The builds themselves are the same 14A5927c.

I won't be so sure that this is true anymore. The macOS Sierra developer preview 2 is build 16A239j, and public beta 1 is 16A238m. Even a user reported that he had build 16A238k, so it might even be different iterations of the beta, maybe widening their testing abilities.

So, it might (or might not) be the same with other products. Only apple knows.

On the Mac, the developer betas and public betas have never been the same build number, and are typically 1 digit or letter apart. Because they use a very different profile system than iOS.

The Mac needed a way to tell the difference between the two so that devs get x and public beta gets y. That isn't necessary on iOS because the profile. The actual builds are identical, it's just so that it can be seen by the right people at the right time.

iOS has always both had identical matching build number. Dev beta 2 is 14A5927c, public beta is 14A5927c.

I had developer profile running iOS 10, deleted it installed the public beta restarted and looked for update and it was up to date. It's the same build you can easily do this change now.

So does that mean if I get a copy of the developer IPSW I can install with iTunes on my Mac with a Public Beta profile? I've tried 5 times OTA and it downloads and fails once it's downloaded every time. Trying to update from Pubic Beta 9.3.3 v5

Yep. If you have method to get that copy then you can install it through iTunes.

Another trick I use: you can remove your profile now, and as long as you don't restart your device, you will continue receiving all upcoming beta until iOS 11. Someone says this does not work for them but it works for me throughout the entire iOS 9 era.

I don't see any reason to go from the dev beta to the public beta. As long as you have the dev beta profile your good, even if your not a developer or if your dev account expires.

My concern with moving to the public beta is that I do not believe that the public beta will get watchOS updates.

Didn't work: Got Error 14 whilst updating. Now iPhone is stuck in DFU. Tried kicking it out with one of the tools but it just reboots and I get the screen saying connect to iTunes. Now downgrading from 9.3.3 v5 to 9.2.1 (or whatever is the current public version) via iTunes. Wish I hadn't bothered trying now!!

Don't know why it's so hard this time
