iPod Convert movies to ipod-friendly format with...?

So I've had my MB for about a month. Prior to that I had a laptop running Windows and found some converter program to convert a few of the movies on my computer into an ipod-friendly format (mp4?). I'm having trouble finding a program that I can run on my mac that allows me to convert an entire movie and not just the first few minutes because it's a trial version. I am looking for something free to convert a couple of .avi files into .mp4 files so I can play them on my ipod... suggestions? Links? Thank you!

Seconded, I use iSquint as well and it seems to do a very good job. The que list feature is especially convenient for converting several files.

Spend a couple bucks and get either QT Pro or VisualHub. Both are well worth it.

There are some half decent free tools, but if you do this often it is definitely worth getting Visturanuralhub

I tried out iSquint and it does a good enough job for the purpose I'm looking for, just to convert some videos to keep on my ipod for those unexpected times of boredom. If I ever need to up the quality for some reason I will keep the others in mind. Not like I could forget Visualhub, which iSquint asks me every time it gets if I want to buy!
