I have a lot of videos in mp4 format which is recorded on iOS 10 iPhone, now that iOS 11 brings hevc I would like to convert all my mp4 videos to the new hevc video format to save space on my Mac hard drive, what is the best and fastest video converter that will create hevc?

I use handbrake (https://handbrake.fr/). It has a batch feature which is handy to do a complete directory.

LOL... it does take a bit of time to convert, but that is completely hardware driven. I have an old Mac Pro (early 2008) that I use to convert and some files are quick, others take a few hours. The size difference in the end is worth the effort. I usually get around a 50% file size reduction. Some files actually get bigger, which I'm still trying to understand!

I got a Mac mini i7 quad core at 16gb and ssd. I tested 1gb mp4 video to hevc it took 25mins. I had switched the speed to ultra fast. File size came out 775mb. What the best setting to smaller video file and possibly good video quality?

What settings are you using? I've done conversions through Quicktime's Export feature, but when I try with Handbrake it seems I can't open the video files with Quicktime afterward...
