Convert Video To iPhone

hey guys, I have read the guides, and know all about what software to use on DVD's but I already have some video's on my computer, I want to convert an avi file to the correct format and resolution for the iphone, im on a macbook pro, Anyone know the best way to do this?

You can shrink the resolution and bitrate to reduce the file size during the transcoding too.
