converting AppleWorks doc into MS Word doc

hi,
this question will probably expose my computer ignorance, but here goes:

I have AppleWorks on my Mac, and my new line of work (transcription) requires me to receive and send documents in MS Word format; can i just use the 'save as' function to convert the AW doc into a MS Word doc, or are there problems when doing so--such as the text not translating correctly, etc? Wondering if i'll need to buy MS Word for Mac, or if the "Save As" function is enough.

Appleworks? There's a blast from the past! LOL Are we talking about Ver 6 old older?

You could try saving it as a .doc file, however fancy formating fonts etc may be lost and may muck the file. I wouldn't go back and forth between the two. (iWork Pages is bad enough)

Although Apple no longer supports Appleworks, the manuals can be downoladed if you need to look.

Will your work pay for a copy of MS Office for Mac. It will make your life simpler.

(By the way did you put in your CV fluent in AppleWorks for Mac? LOL.)

AppleWorks 6.2.x offers options to save to Word format.

Use "Save As" and choose the format you wish to save in.

Word '97 looks to be the good choice.

If this is your job, then you must treat it as such. There was a time when your profession was standardized on WordPerfect. However, those days are gone. Word rolled over WordPerfect. Many still grit their teeth at the very thought of Word, but they had to adapt anyway.

If you were an amateur receiving the occasional transcript from a friend, then conversion filters like MacLinkPlus Deluxe might be OK. It is not OK for a professional. Buy Word if you must supply your own software. Your fee for a single deposition may pay for it.
